Youth

The gospel has much to offer our youth, and the teen-aged years can be an exciting time of finding and growing in faith. Our increasingly complex world presents challenges to teenagers that adults often do not fully understand. The technology of social media connects youth to their peer groups with unprecedented immediacy, but also presents extraordinary pressures, such as cyber-bullying. Southminster Presbyterian Church (SPC) offers youth ministries as a way for them to grow in faith and maturity not only in the life of the church, but with their peers as well.

Southminster understands the important role of youth in churches today, and also, that youth areSPY CONFIRMANDS 2012 not the church of tomorrow but are the church of today. Our youth are encouraged to be part of the entire church family by participating in worship, service, study and fellowship with the whole church family. We also offer our youth programs as a safe and personal entry into the larger church family. From middle school to high school, we offer programs that will intrigue, excite, encourage, and help our youth grow in self-confidence, maturity and faith.

SPY (Southminster Presbyterian Youth) offers a place to have fun, build friendships, grow in faith, and experience service to both middle school and high school youth.  We meet most weeks in a variety of formats.

SNL (Sunday Night Live) is an evening of games and fellowship with a brief devotional moment.

Some Sunday evenings we substitute SNL with “Talking with Your MouthFull” an evening of pizza and talk about important stuff like life, faith, how to survive school.

ACTS (After Church to Somewhere) is a Sunday afternoon event, off the church property. This program includes anything from lunch out, to games at a mall, bowling, and other fun activities.

Special events throughout the year include lock-ins and retreats, but the capstone event is our annual DSCF1536Youth Mission Trip. This trip provides a unique opportunity for our high school youth to join with other similarly aged youth from other churches to provide much needed repairs to homes of families in need in impoverished areas of the United States. SPC’s youth finance this trip through a number of fund-raising events, such as our Annual Spaghetti Dinner, Talent Show, and Rummage Sale, as well as, other events.  The Youth Mission Trip is also supported through Southminster’s Mission Ministry’s where monies donated to the Mission Trip by church members are matched by the Gifts Grow program.
