Ministries

Southminster is led and served by a board of Elders known as the Session. Members of the church are invited to serve on Session committees which we call Ministries. Friends of the church are enthusiastically invited to participate.

Worship Ministry is responsible for all matters relating to the worship life of the church including:

· Worship Schedule
· Ushers/Acolytes
· Communion
· Candles/Paraments/Banners

Christian Education Ministry, along with the Director of Christian Education, is responsible for all aspects of congregation education for Sunday school, youth and adults including:

· Curriculum
· Special Events
· Confirmation

IMG_3922Welcoming and Outreach Ministry is responsible for evangelism / recruitment and assimilation of new members as well as public relations. Activities include:

· Inquirers’ Class
· Memorial Garden Retreats
· New Member Welcome and Breakfast
· New Member Photos
· Community Communications

Stewardship Ministry promotes the giving of time, money and talent to serve and operate the church. Responsibilities include:

· Selecting/Promoting Stewardship Campaign
· Hosting Stewardship Activities
· Distributing/Collecting Pledge Cards

Property Ministry is responsible for all matters relating to the care, upkeep and maintenance of the church building and property including:

· Clean-Up Days
· Snow Removal
· Lawn/Garden Care
· General Inside Maintenance/Repair
· Purchase of General Supplies
· Capital Improvements
· Memorial Garden

Finance Ministry oversees our financial and administrative operations and determines appropriate internal controls to safeguard the church’s assets. Responsibilities include:

· Financial Planning
· Annual Budgets
· Financial Reports

Personnel Ministry handles all matters relating to staff and serves as a liaison between staff and Session. Other responsibilities include:

· Recruitment
· Staff Reviews
· Child Protection Policies

Nominating Ministry is responsible for nominating members to serve as church officers on the Board of Deacons and the Session as well as at-large members for the nominating and endowment ministries. Other responsibilities include:

· Calling All Potential New Officers
· Overseeing the Training of New Officers
· Organizing the Annual Officers’ Retreat

Mission Ministry guides the congregation in the effective use of church funds and talent to actively serve others in need. Mission programs include:

· Family Shelter Service
· Peoples Resource Center
· Rebuilding Together Aurora or Habitat for Humanity
· Walk In Ministry
· CNS Home Health & Hospice, Cadence Health
· Connection of Friends
· Cuba Sister Church Ministry
· Bridge Communities
· DuPage Convalescent Center
· DuPage PADS
· Gifts Grow/Mission Ministry
· Youth Mission Trip
· Feed the Homeless – South Africa
· Soles4Souls
· American Cancer Society: Honoring and Remembering – Luminaria Sunday
· American Cancer Society: Relay for Life

Youth Action Team, a group made up of parents and adult volunteers who meet monthly to assist in the ministry to youth.

Endowment Funds Ministry has oversight responsibility for the planned giving program for Southminster Church.

The membership consists of the moderator of the Stewardship Ministry, the moderator of the Finance Ministry and three members from the congregation at large. The Pastor, Clerk of Session and the Treasurer serve as ex officio members.

Southminster is also served by a Board of Deacons, who care for members and friends in times of need and celebration.

Congregational Care Ministry is responsible for assisting congregation members and friends in times of need and joy. Their responsibilities include:

· Meals
· Transportation
· Childcare
· Home or Hospital Visits
· New Life Flower Program
· Recording of Sunday Services
· Delivery of Flowers from Worship

Fellowship Ministry coordinates all fellowship activities/ events for the church. Responsibilities include:

· Weekly Coffee Fellowship
· Greeters for Every Worship Service
· Monthly Fellowship Events for Members/Families
