Church Officers

Any member of our church is welcome to serve as an Officer of the church.  Officers are recommended by the congregation, nominated by the Nominating Ministry, elected by the congregation and serve a three-year term.  These elections are held in February.  Officers are then ordained and installed in May when they begin to serve their term of service.

The Session

Southminster is governed by 15 Elders elected by the congregation, which collectively make up the Session.  Together with the pastor, the Session is responsible for the government, discipline, and life of our church.  Session meets monthly to address matters of church life and coordinate the various ministries of our church.

Specific responsibilities include receiving new members; overseeing educational programs; providing for worship; leading the congregation in missions; inspiring the congregation to give of its time, talents and financial support; assuring the safety and integrity of the physical facilities; and providing guidance to the church as a whole.

The Board of Deacons

Deacons are the shepherds of Southminster. Working with the Pastor, they tend to the physical and spiritual cares of the congregation. Deacons meet monthly to address matters of church life and to coordinate the Congregational Care and Fellowship Ministries.

On Sunday mornings, Deacons greet members, friends and visitors as we enter the church.  Additionally, they prepare the refreshments that are available during the time of fellowship in the narthex following worship.
