Giving and Giving Back

The ministries of Southminster Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn are supported financially by its members and friends.  There are a number of ways that you can help Southminster:

How can I give?

Most often, gifts are made to Southminster by check (either written by you, or sent from your bank), or in cash.  Offering envelopes are available (just ask if you have not already received a box of offering envelopes for this year), and there are always extra offering envelopes in the pews and on the table by the offering plate.

Donations may also be made online, through Vanco. When using this online service, you will have the opportunity to donate the transaction cost – we encourage you to make this extra donation, so that the full amount of your gift may be used for your intended purposes.

If you are interested in making another type of gift to Southminster, such as a gift of securities, or a gift from your IRA, please contact Southminster’s finance moderator, Jay Lerch at jaylerch@sbcglobal.net or Southminster’s treasurer, Tom Frey at freyTF@aol.com.

Pledge

During the month of October, Southminster asks each household to make a financial pledge.  A pledge is a confidential declaration of the amount you intend to donate to Southminster during the coming calendar year.  The reasons for pledging are both practical and biblical.  Southminster bases its budget each year on the total amount of pledges received – that is the practical side.  For each of us, making an annual pledge helps us give intentionally, and proportionately, in response to God’s blessings – that is the biblical side.

Offerings

Whether or not you pledge, your donations to Southminster are most welcome and will be put to careful use.  Both financial gifts and gifts of service are of enormous assistance to Southminster.

Designated Giving

Designated giving provides a way to make special gifts for specific ministries or programs.  Each month, a number of people make extra gifts to designated ministries within Southminster, such as Southminster’s per capita contributions to the work of our denomination, Southminster’s Living Legacy Fund endowment, or even a special gift to help pay down the mortgage.  Special envelopes are available in the pews and on the table by the offering plate, with space to indicate the ministry to be supported.  If you have another idea for a special gift, you are encouraged to speak with our pastor or the moderator of our finance ministry.

Gifts and Memorials

You can make a special gift in honor or in memory of a loved one, friend, or colleague.  Simply indicate the information on your check, on your pew envelope, or in a note enclosed with your check or cash.  You may also indicate on your pew envelope that a memorial gift be made to Southminster’s Living Legacy Fund (our endowment).

iGive

Many online purchases can benefit Southminster, if you register Southminster Presbyterian Church as your designated charity with iGive.com, and then use that website to access participating online merchants, iGive.com will pay a percentage of your purchases to Southminster.  We allocate these donations to our general operating fund, where they are available to benefit all of Southminster’s ministries.
